  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter Used for sautéing the onions.
  • 1 cup mayonnaise Creates a velvety base; can substitute with Greek yogurt.
  • 4 ounces softened cream cheese Enhances the dip’s creaminess.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Adds a subtle hint of garlic.
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme Fresh thyme is an alternative.
  • ½ teaspoon salt Essential for enhancing overall flavors.
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese Offers sharpness to balance the sweetness.
  • 1 cup shredded smoked gouda cheese Provides a fantastic smoky dimension.

For serving

  • Chopped parsley For garnish, adds color and freshness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 375°F.
  • Melt the butter in a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the chopped sweet onions and sauté for about 15 minutes until soft and fragrant.

Mixing

  • Remove the skillet from heat and stir in mayonnaise, cream cheese, garlic powder, thyme, salt, cheddar, and gouda until well combined.

Baking

  • Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 25 minutes until bubbly and golden.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Can be made ahead of time and stored in the fridge. Reheat before serving. Leftovers last for up to three days in an airtight container.
