  • 2 cups basmati rice Good quality basmati rice recommended.
  • 3 cups water Using chicken or vegetable broth can enhance the flavor.

Flavorings

  • 2 teaspoons chicken bouillon Adds depth; can use vegetable bouillon or omit for a vegetarian version.
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder Enhances the overall flavor profile.
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder Balances the rice's flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt Adjust according to taste, especially if bouillon is salty.
  • 1 ½ teaspoons ground turmeric Gives the rice its golden color and earthy flavor.
  • to taste cilantro for garnish Can substitute with parsley if not a fan.

Preparation

  • Heat the butter or oil in a large pot over medium heat until melted.
  • Add the rice and stir to coat. Cook for about 2 minutes until slightly toasted.
  • Stir in the water, chicken bouillon, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and turmeric.
  • Bring the mixture to a rolling boil.
  • Reduce heat to a gentle simmer, cover, and let it cook for 12-15 minutes undisturbed.
  • After cooking, remove from heat and keep the lid on for an additional 5 minutes to steam.
  • Fluff the rice with a fork and transfer to a serving bowl. Garnish with cilantro if desired.

Notes

This recipe scales easily; just maintain the ingredient ratios. To store, refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 3 days; freeze for up to a month.
